Pinkie Promise

        Don't promise me forever because I won't believe you. You probably think that forever will tell me just how much your heart swells or how the love you feel is undying, unyielding, unchanging, but I know the fickle ways of the heart. I know how it varies on a whim, the same way that it beats faster at any given moment from any given cause before you can stop it. You're not its master, it is the master of you, making your blood sing and snatching your reason up so that you can do nothing but follow it. You think that you are in control of it, but before you know it, the heart has made a new decision without asking for your permission. No, you are no master.
        Don't promise me tomorrow because tomorrow may never come. The world is just as fickle as the heart and tomorrow's sun may never rise. Who are we to assume that just because the light has touched the earth every other day that the same will happen again and wake us from our slumber? The sun isn't eternal and without it tomorrow doesn't exist—it simply becomes another human myth that we used to delude ourselves into some semblance of order.
        Don't promise me today because the day is full of unreliable, changing moments. The wind comes and goes as it pleases, changing the shape of reality with the mere shifting of a leaf on a tree; it only takes one breath to alter a lifetime and the ripple effect goes on ceaselessly to the point that we cannot see the edges. The wind may push us a way or away as per its wont and it may guide you so far away that your heart changes its mind and I become nothing but a distant memory.
        Just promise me now. This moment that we're so sure of because we're amassed in it. A moment not yet affected by the wind or the sun, and where the heart remains stable. Just promise me now. This moment where everything is tangible and bears impression of reality. A moment where I can feel you next to me and can still communicate with your heart because it still harmonizes with mine. Just promise me now, because now is all I can rely on. And now is all that I can ask for.
